Welcome to the home of Melbourne's premier Reggae And Ska Band Shanty Town
Shanty Town are a lively 7 piece band that plays a vibrant mix of early Jamaican dance music (called Rocksteady) along with Reggae and upbeat Ska tunes. The band plays regularly in the Melbourne live music scene and the line-up includes 3 horns, Hammond Keyboard Player, Bass, Drums and Jamaican/English singer.
The music is an appealing mix of classics from Toots and The Maytals, Bob Marley And The Wailers, Desmond Dekker and Ken Boothe along with many original songs.
This highly professional line-up includes Steve Phillips (Melbourne Ska Orchestra), Pete Ryan (The Andy Layfield Band), Paul Jamieson (Sugar Blue) and Jason Rolfe (Immortal Horns).
Shantytown plays often at “Jamaica Jump Up” – a special event held at The Gosometer (Collingwood) and also at The Union Hotel (Brunswick), Open Studio (Northcote), Transit (Federation Square) and The Sooki Lounge (Belgrave). Festivals have included The Wagga Wagga Jazz and Blues Festival and Castlemaine Music Festival.
